the Meseta in February - new writing from this morning

(Tuesday, 13 February 2018, the Meseta outside Burgos on the Camino de Santiago near Rabé de las Calzadas, Castilla y León, Spain)

the Meseta in February

your forehead and the top
of your head are all of a shape
more aero-dynamic than your face
full-frontal, brunt of wind-blown rain and
freezing rain and sleet and snow
pelting your tender face-skin
powered by a twenty-plus-mile-per-hour wind
and all you can do is look down
frontal-lobe forward, protected by bone
and wool and gore-tex
and plow into the wind
and take care not to lose your balance
on the rocky way
or the wind will blow you down

"no place" -- my first blog post in more than a year, drawn from an experience almost exactly four years ago
