Rain touch

Sodden though decorated
with dark green foliage
that spreads minute

by minute
from root to trunk to branch
to twig to stem to leaf

into a heavy canopy
that droops with leafy
water-weight

to be merged with damp moss
and with dark saturated
fertile matter decayed

and crawling with life—
all the visible world
seems morphed into a liquid

critical mass of life
and you—with your brown
eyes that shine

with the depth of life
and its suffering and its intense
joy even in its suffering—

and I touch each other
gently but we are both
so touch-sensitive

that the same suffering
and joy flows together
between us in the slow

heavy rain in this moment
as this moment consumes
all past and future

"so much things to say" - just finished this - took me about ten minutes to write - I wanted to break away from the highly structured dense weight of my last poem and write something loose and free, and a bit ironic - the first two and a half lines come from the wonderful Bob Marley song, "So Much Things To Say"

"no place" -- my first blog post in more than a year, drawn from an experience almost exactly four years ago
