Korol Lir Король Лир(1971)USSR [now Russia]

a Russian (then Soviet) King Lear... who better to do Lear than someone from the land of Dostoevsky?...the director Grigori Kozintsev wrote a book, The Space of Tragedy, about his making of Lear, and he later adapted Don Quixote for film using the same actor, Jüri Järvets... and the score for Lear was composed by Shostakovich... what more could you ask for?

...btw, Lear is my favorite play by Shakespeare... and imho it is one of the towering achievements of western culture
